Preparing For Your Visit
Do I need a driver?
It is not required, but some patients do not feel comfortable driving after dilation. It is up to you if you feel safe to drive with your eyes dilated.
Do I need a referral/prior authorization to be seen at your office?
It depends on your insurance company. Please refer to our “Insurance” section to see which plans require prior authorizations.
Do I need to bring my eye drops?
Yes.
Do I need to bring my glasses?
Yes.
What if I wear contact lenses?
Please bring a case and solution to store your lenses during your evaluation.
Do I need to bring my medicines?
You do not need to bring the medicine bottle (although you are welcome to), but we do request a list of the medications and specific dosage that you are currently taking. This list should include prescriptions, supplements, vitamins and over-the-counter medicines.
Will my eyes be dilated?
Yes.
How long will the dilation last?
The dilation drops usually last from 4 to 6 hours.
Is there a way to reverse the dilation?
No.
Will my eyes be dilated every visit?
Typically yes.
Can you give me a new glasses prescription?
Since our office specializes in problems of the retina, we are not equipped to check your prescription
Will I have my procedure on the same day as my appointment?
We are able to do some procedures (e.g. lasers and injections) in our office on the same day, however depending on the type of retina problem, we may need to schedule and perform surgery in a surgery center.
